Bournemouth: New Managing Director in the driving seat at Yellow Buses


ANDREW Smith has moved into the driving seat after being appointed Managing Director of Bournemouth Transport Limited (BTL).

Previously Deputy Managing Director, he succeeds Derek Lott who has become BTL’s Executive Chairman after nine years as MD.

Andrew joined BTL – better known as Yellow Buses – as Finance Director in 2006 and became Deputy Managing Director last year.

He started his commercial accounting career in aerospace engineering in Wimborne, Dorset, moving into retail in Bristol before joining Hanson Aggregates Limited in Exeter in 1992.

Based in Southampton, Andrew was promoted to Divisional Finance Director at Hanson in 2000 with responsibility for finance teams in France, Belgium and the Netherlands as well as accounting for the UK shipping fleet.

He has lived in South East Dorset for many years and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate of the Chartered Management Institute.

Derek is now Executive Chairman of Bath Bus Company and Metrolink RATP Dev Ltd, which operates the Manchester tram network, in addition to BTL.


Yellow Buses operates a fleet of 150 buses and 16 coaches with a staff of over 400. It carries more than 15m passengers a year with its vehicles operating over 5 million miles across the Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and East Dorset area.
