LONDON: Imaginative youngsters draw on their creative side

Students from Alexandra Junior School in Hounslow have been discovering their artistic talents in a design competition staged jointly by London United’s Hounslow Heath and Hounslow bus garages

The students were invited to design an advertisement for the side of a bus in celebration of Transport for London’s ‘Year of the Bus’ 2014 initiative.

Year six pupil Taffisha Morris won the competition and her design can now be seen on two buses running on London United’s Route 111 service, which operates from Kingston to Heathrow, passing close to the school en route.

Taffisha, together with runner-ups Aditya Narayan (Year 5) and Sreeya Daruri (Year 4) along with Head Teacher Nick Hodgess were invited to Hounslow bus garage on Wednesday 16 July to see the design on the buses and collect competition certificates. As a little extra the children were given a model bus each to take away with them.

Nigel Harris, General Manager of Hounslow bus garage, said: “I was really pleased we were able to work with the school and involve the children. It is important for us as a garage and as a company to interact with the community we serve.”

Alexandra Junior School Head Teacher Nick Hodgess said: “We were extremely pleased to be asked to take part in the competition and delighted that our talented pupils enjoyed the experience.”
